Condoms A flexible sheath, usually made of thin rubber or latex, designed to cover the penis during sexual intercourse for contraceptive purposes or as a means of preventing sexually transmitted diseases.  When using a lubricant with a condom it is imperative that a water-based lubricant is used.  Petroleum based lubricants, like Vaseline, deteriorate latex products such as condoms.
